Phillip Island Food Fanatics

Phillip Island Food Fanatics (PIFF) is a collective of people keen for organic fruit and veggies. We organise a weekly delivery of fresh wholesale produce from the Footscray Market to the island. The group is not-for-profit and run by volunteers. We are in the process of becoming incorporated.

what's in a box?

We provide mixed boxes with around 2/3 veggies and 1/3 fruit. It is typically 10kg of food, enough for two big eaters or a family of four. We order mostly staple-type foods (pumpkin/potato, broccoli/cauliflower, zucchini/eggplant, greens, tomatoes, mushrooms, apples/pears, oranges/mandarins, bananas etc) but supplement it with some unusual things too. Yet despite our careful planning, we don't get to see or smell the produce before it arrives (we order off a list) and at least one ordered item doesn't turn up each week...

We don't customise anyone's box, the F&V is divided equally. Hence asking us for less or more of any item doesn't really happen as it is extra work for our volunteers for no return. But we are open to requests for different F&V. Also helping sort the boxes on Mondays allows you some flexibility with your box and/or the chance to swap things with others. You can also put in an additional order for F&V (i.e. 20kg potatoes) but be warned it's almost always in big quantities.

During the summer months we offer a $20 mixed fruit box. The box mostly contains weekly fruit staples like oranges/mandarins, bananas, apples/pears etc., along with some yummy treats like berries, melon or drinking coconuts. Perfect for filling up the school lunches and making gorgeous fruit salads and smoothies. These boxes are sure to be a hit with all the fruit lovers in your house!
